Day 24 of 40 Days to Passover and Resurrection Weekend
Sing your song out loud! Sing and make melody in your heart for you have been
redeemed at a great cost.
So can we just talk about music for a minute? Let me be like Paul and verify my credentials. I started piano lessons at 6 years old, began playing in church at 13 (albeit a small church, very small in fact), and until just a few years ago, I played regularly almost every week. I know about church music.
I’ve played for Pentecostal congregations (my beloved heritage), Baptist, Methodist, and non-denominational, big church and country church. And they all have their style. And the congregants have their preferences. And none of us like change.
Why is it that style of music gets us so worked up?
Can we just focus on the words, on the intent and on the Person it is about? And can that be enough?
God’s children can surely agree to disagree about what they like, but surely we can enter in to the spirit of togetherness and the spirit of worship. After all, it is not supposed to be about us, but about Him.
Don’t get hung up on the music just because it’s not your favorite style. Try it. You just might like it.
That said, let’s sing and make melody in our hearts. Sing to the Lamb a new song. He has overcome and we have been redeemed. Sing with the young and sing with the old. Let everything that has breath just praise the Lord.
We are over half way through our 40-day journey. Come on along for the rest of it, won’t you?
