His word in me

Day 20 of 40 Days to Passover and Resurrection Weekend

Learn a Bible verse each week and say it before meals.

Suggestions:

John 1:29  The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

John 3:16 For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.

John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows Me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.

John 11:25  Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me, even if he dies, will live.

When I was kid, I went to children’s church in the basement while the adults stayed upstairs for big church.  I did not feel deprived or shewed off to the lower levels.  I loved going where the songs and stories were for little people like me and our leader was my Aunt Dottie who loved children and had a heart to tell them about Jesus.

The things I learned in children’s church laid a foundation and remain steadfast in me to this day.

One thing we were challenged to do was learn a Bible verse each week, and we quoted the verse the following week at children’s church.  It was always King James Version with its thees and thous.  My mind was young and able to memorize quickly then.  And I wanted to win the prize.

I didn’t fully realize then how valuable those verses would be.  They came to mind on so many occasions when I need to hear the truth.  They brought comfort in times of stress.  They encouraged me to stand strong.  I later understood that they were treasures I possessed that could not be taken away.

It’s harder to memorize Scriptures these days, though I still try.

Ann Voskamp wisely penned these words over at AHolyExperience:

“God hands you lungs when He hands you His Word and says — These are not idle words to you, they. are. your. life.

What you really know by heart is what your heart really knows — and what you really live.

The steady beat of His word is the only thing that gives a strong rhythm to our days.”

Hide the Word of God in your heart.  It will keep you in times of temptation.  It will be health to your bones and peace to your life.  It will be there when you need it.
