Day 13 of 40 Days to Passover and Resurrection Weekend

Read Exodus 11 – 15, God delivering Israel from Egypt and their victory song.

Oh my goodness there is so much I would like to say today.  I wish we had a couple of hours together just to sit around the kitchen table with our Bibles and cups of coffee in our hands, brownies and chips on the counter, us in our comfy clothes with nothing else on our schedules.

The tenth plague, the death of every first-born person and animal, would be enough for the Hebrews to leave with a good riddance and with the goods of Egypt. This month was to be a new beginning for them.  Slaves no longer, they are soon to be set free by the strong arm of a mighty God.  So Moses gives instructions for the Lord’s Passover.

God showed Egypt who He was through signs and wonders performed by the hands and rod of Moses and Aaron, yet they would not listen or even acknowledge Him.  Final judgment was about to fall.  At the same time, grace was being extended to God’s people, a way out of the judgment through the ritual of the Passover celebration.  It was a profound object lesson and a prophetic revelation of the coming  Messiah, God’s Passover Lamb.

Every place and person was affected as the destroyer went through the land executing judgment.  But in Goshen where the blood dripped warm and red over the doors of the Israelites’ homes, the destroyer passed over them, not entering because they were marked and sealed in blood.

The Passover was to be an ordinance, a festival, a feast to celebrate throughout the generations.  We must proclaim God’s love and His power to the next generation and the next.  Again and again in the book of Exodus we hear God instruct the people to tell your sons and your son’s son.  Tell the children. In this 21st century, our responsibility is still very clear.  Tell the children!  Do not let a generation grow up who does not know the love and power of a God who came to save.

Future Passover feasts were to be a time to remember how God brought deliverance to His chosen ones. I need to remember what God has done for me.  When today’s frustrations create anxiety, I need to remember yesterday’s blessings and victories.  When Jesus celebrated Passover with His disciples for the very last time, He gave them the bread and the wine and final words of, “Remember me.”  The cares of this life can quickly blind my eyes to God’s gracious goodness.  We lose focus too quickly.  Fix your eyes on Jesus.  Keep Him central  and let the rest fade from view.

The victory song is heard loud and clear on the other side of the Red Sea where a million people walked across on dry ground and Pharaoh’s army finally met its match.

For there is no God like our God who has triumphed gloriously.  He is our strength and our song and has become our salvation through the blood of the Lamb, Christ Jesus.

Sing unto Him with a song of deliverance for who is like the Lord, glorious in holiness, awesome in splendor, doing wonders?
