Goals for 2011

I guess a lot of people have already written resolutions or goals for the New Year. It usually takes me a few days into January to complete my list.

I started making New Year’s resolutions when I was just a little girl, probably because I thought I was supposed to. It didn’t take long for me to break them.

As an adult, however, I realized writing out goals is a much better choice.

A goal is a destination, something to aim at and work toward. A resolution seems destined to fall by the wayside with one little slip up.

For years I’ve been writing a list of goals.  At the end of the year, I look back and see how I’ve done. Truthfully, having a list helps keep me focused. I’m more likely to keep striving for it if it is written down.

Some things have been recurring on my goals list the past few years, making them more than just a target for a year. They have become more of what I want my life to look like.  I have decided they should be my

GOALS FOR LIFE

Be it resolved that I want to live my life in such a way that when I die people will know for sure I was a Christ follower.

  • I want to savor every day, being thankful for the moments of my life.
  • I want to live in simple abundance, realizing I have more than enough.
  • I want to have a gentle and peaceful spirit.
  • I want to leave a legacy of laughing a lot, of loving with abandon, of worshiping with my whole heart.
  • I want to pass on my faith and my love for the Word of God to my grandchildren.
  • I want to leave people smiling.
  • I want to hear the Lord speak to me through His Word.
  • I want to be faithful in prayer.
  • I want to witness to my neighbors, friends, and others and see them receive salvation.
  • I want to be an excellent wife, a non-interfering mother, a supportive mother-in-law, and the best Grammy possible.
  • I want to treasure my friends and spend time with them.
  • I want to offer a cup of tea and comfort as God sends people my way.
  • I want to speak words that help others become stronger.
  • I want to be open to new ideas and listen to others’ thoughts.
  • I want to be willing to change my opinion if I am found wrong.
  • I want to be teachable and continue to learn new things.

You may have heard the saying, “If you want to hear God laugh, show Him your plans.” I would like to think when He sees this list, He might say . . .

“Well, it looks like she finally got it.”
